Description

PLASMORE is a small spin off of the University of Pavia and the Joint Research Centre of the European Community in Ispra (JRC). PLASMORE’s expertise ranges from the development and production of nanostructured surfaces for improving the detection sensitivity of biomolecules in iSPR systems to the development, production and engineering of portable imaging biosensing devices.

Role in the project

PLAS is responsible of the study and the implementation of the sensitive surface (grating) devoted to the transduction of the molecular information into the optical signal. In the project development, PLASwill be in charge of the simulation of the optical response of the grating, its fabrication and characterization, as well as its integration into the detection module. Moreover, PLAS will take care of the grating functionalization, i.e. the preparation of the surface for the deposition of the molecular receptors.

Description

The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe) is a public veterinary Institute which conducts prevention, control and research activities in three main areas: animal health and welfare, food safety, environmental protection.

Role in the project

IZSVe will be leader of in-field demonstration of the h-ALO sensor and reporting of collected data (WP6). IZSVe will lead the collection and testing of real samples both in lab environment (T6.1) and in real settings (T6.2) and will be in charge of the database creation (T.6.3). IZSVe will contribute to the definition of system specifications (WP1) and matrix-specific sample preparation (T.4.3), will provide inputs on data for the mobile application development (T5.5), and will contribute to dissemination, exploitation and training activities (WP7), leading the consumers’ consultation (T7.3.1).

Description

Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR) is part of Wageningen University & Research and a leading research institute on food safety and authenticity. The institute not only carries out food safety research but also advises national and international governments and is an European Reference Laboratory.

Role in the project

WFSR is leader of Work Package 3 and responsible for the development of bio-recognition assays for the detection of pesticides and heavy metals to be implemented on the h-ALO sensor. WFSR will transfer the developed assays to the h-ALO sensor and will benchmark the sensor performance to their state of art biosensor assays and will perform confirmatory analysis on the presence of target pesticide and heavy metals in samples provided by the consortium and their partners. WFSR will actively support the point of need introduction of the h-ALO sensor by providing guidance in the experiments carried out.

Description

Innosieve Diagnostics BV (INN) directs towards the development , production and sales of direct rapid microbial methods in different sectors. We mainly focus on solid phase cytometry and fluorecence detection using optical analysis systems. We have major expertise in fluorescent nucleic acid-based detection, including (isothermal) amplification strategies, preferably combined with dedicated solid phase cytometry to collect targetrs of interest.

Role in the project

Development of a sample preparation procedure, including hardware, using membrane-based filtration and (specific) collection of targets of interest from different sample types, for subsequent analysis using SPR. Development of benchmark tests to evaluate the performance of the h-ALO sensor.
INN will be the h-ALO Exploitation and Innovation Manager due to the extensive expertise and knowledge of the market requirements for commercialization of new, rapid diagnostic tools.

Description

RISE is the Swedish Research Institute and innovation partner. In international collaboration with industry, academia and the public sector, we ensure the competitiveness of the business community and contribute to a sustainable society.

Role in the project

RISE will lead activities related to design and integration of the sensor in a handheld device, with electrical interface to the sensor, as well as a mobile communications unit (WP5). Activities will mainly focus of physical design of device, electrical design of electronics, programming of SoC including transmission of data.

Description

Fraunhofer is Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization. Our research efforts are geared entirely to people’s needs: health, security, communication, energy and the environment. As a result, the work undertaken by our researchers and developers has a significant impact on people’s lives.

Role in the Project

The main tasks in the project h-ALO FhG ENAS will mainly contribute to development of the microfluidic system. The microfluidic system will on the one hand integrate the microsieve, which will perform the sample preparation and preconcentration, and on the other hand the plasmonic sensor.

Description

7BULLS is a private Polish company specializing in software development and integration of IT systems. Founded in 1999, 7bulls was listed among the winners of Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Central Europe in 2012. The strongest competence of 7bulls is complex IT systems, mostly for large organizations.

Role in the Project

Main 7BULLS tasks are focused on 3 main areas. The first one is to provide software for mobile devices that will connect to the scanner device, collect measurement data, display them to the user and optionally send it to the central data warehouse (data distribution to be constrained by regulatory or end user limitations). The second area is a data warehouse capable of storing data from multiple devices and making them available for further analysis. Final area is to provide tools for data analysis that will allow for extracting relevant information from the gathered data.
